Our Worshipful Master, Albert Miller, was recently hospitalized.  As a result, this month's message from the East was published by our esteemed Trestleboard editor, Walter Leitch.

For the remainder of the year, Al wants Lodge Officers to expect to advance through the chairs so as to re-establish what had been in place for officers in the past.  It looks like Al's getting his wish since all our officers have been advanced temporarily in his absence. With this in mind, Al has established that all practice sessions for the remainder of the year will be Called Communications to allow fulfillment of requirements for those looking to earn Warden, or Worshipful Master certificates, or to otherwise become proficient in the next chair in line.

Al related that his Masonic experiences both in California and Idaho has made him a better man and Brother.  He "Knows for a Fact" that he has received more than he has given concerning what Freemasonry has to offer those that participate in Lodge activities.  One can only obtain these benefits if active, regularly attend, and get involved in doing the degree ritual work necessary for teaching others the craft.  Al credits Freemasonry for making him more tolerant and understanding of human characteristics and psychological nature of man.

Al knows for a fact that today he would not be the man he is today, were it not for Freemasonry.  Al has experienced almost all aspects of Freemasonry, even that of the Knights of Columbus.  Their admitance even for visitors is very strictly controlled.  For example: good financial standing and no police record to name a few.  Al was invited to attend one of their gatherings which was a high honor for him as far as he was concerned.

Al estimates he has coached 40 to 50 new brethren for the degrees over the years and all were during the time only word to ear was regularly used as the teaching method.

During Walter's visit with Al Miller, he was in the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) on the third floor at the St. Luke's hospital.  Walter noted that Al's "Goals for the day" were: 1) Stabilize Breathing, and 2) Keep free of any Injury.  To which Al had also added: Get me out-a-here!

We look forward to seeing Al in good health again.
